New development from MAHLE allows steel pistons to be used in powerful passenger car engines
Stuttgart, February 04, 2019 – A new production process from MAHLE with maximum design freedom for the piston gallery permits the way for the use of steel pistons in powerful passenger car diesel engines. The special laser welding process that is used allows for a kidney-shaped cross section of the piston gallery.

MAHLE acquires transmission specialist
Stuttgart, January 9, 2019 – MAHLE is taking over the transmission specialist ZG-Zahnräder und Getriebe GmbH, based in Eching, near Munich/Germany. With this step, the technology group MAHLE is further developing its competence in the entire powertrain. It has been mutually agreed that the details of the agreement and the purchase price will not be disclosed.

New research and development center for electronics: a milestone for vehicle electrification at MAHLE
Stuttgart/Germany and Valencia/Spain, November 23, 2018 – MAHLE inaugurated a new research and development center yesterday at its location in Valencia/Spain. Plant opens for electric air conditioning compressors: MAHLE strengthens its systems competence in electric vehicles
Stuttgart, October 31, 2018 – MAHLE has opened its first production plant for electric compressors. MAHLE will manufacture e-compressors for international automobile manufacturers at the production location in Balassagyarmat/Hungary and has already obtained several customer projects. Series production will start in 2019.

MAHLE solutions for fuel cell drives in commercial vehicles
Stuttgart, September 19, 2018– Throughout the world, the number of vehicles equipped with fuel cell drives is increasing slowly but steadily. Large quantities are expected within the next five years, particularly from Asian manufacturers. However, new opportunities are also opening up worldwide for heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Promising avenues include weight savings and extension of the cruising range in comparison with battery-powered solutions. Fuel cell concepts may represent an attractive option for long-distance hauling, which requires heavy loads and large cruising ranges.

MAHLE acquires Italian thermostat specialist
Stuttgart/Germany, September 4, 2018 – In August, the MAHLE Group acquired all the shares in the former joint venture Behr Thermot-tronik Italia S.p.A. (BTTI), which has been renamed MAHLE Behr Grugliasco S.p.A. with immediate effect. The former shareholders, MAHLE Behr Kornwestheim GmbH and Valtri S.p.A., jointly agreed to this step in order to pursue the long-term, future-oriented focus and successful ongoing development of BTTI.

Oil-free: MAHLE air compressor components
Stuttgart, August 14, 2018 – The new MAHLE components for the design of oil-free compressors represent a small revolution in the production of compressed air for commercial vehicle brake systems. Thanks to the use of a Nikasil®-coated cylinder in combination with a special teflon piston ring and a sliding lacquer piston coating on the piston skirt, oil lubrication—previously a crucial step—can be omitted without any impact on the service life.

Withdrawal from joint venture: MAHLE plans to sell HBPO shares to Plastic Omnium

Stuttgart/Germany, January 31, 2018 – As of February 1, the new CEO of MAHLE, the fourth-largest German automotive supplier with sales of around EUR 13 billion and 77,000 employees, will be Dr. Jörg Stratmann. When ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Wolf-Henning Scheider, Chairman of the MAHLE Management Board until the end of January, both expressed the desire for a change, the MAHLE Group was able to resolve the matter swiftly.
